After a road collision: people and scene safety first
Do not put yourself or others at further risk to inspect or move a damaged vehicle. Switch off the engine if safe, use hazard lights and move to a place of relative safety where possible. Call 999 when there are injuries, a dangerous obstruction, fire, smoke, leaking fuel or another immediate hazard.
Follow police, fire-service, ambulance and road-authority instructions. Do not move an injured person unless there is immediate danger. The Highway Code explains the duties that apply after a collision, including stopping, exchanging details and reporting requirements.
BZ Recovery is a vehicle recovery provider. We do not replace the emergency services and cannot decide liability, give insurance advice or override an incident commander. We attend once access is authorised and conditions are safe.
Accident recovery for damaged and immobilised vehicles
A crash can leave a vehicle with damaged steering, suspension, wheels, bodywork, glass or electrical systems. Some vehicles roll freely; others need winching, skates, dollies or a different loading approach. We ask detailed questions before dispatch so we can assess the recovery job rather than sending unsuitable equipment.
Collision-damaged car recovery
Recovery for cars that cannot be driven after a collision, including vehicles with damaged panels, cooling systems, wheels or suspension, subject to a safety and loading assessment.
Accident-damaged van recovery
Light commercial van recovery where vehicle size, weight, load and damage are within the safe capability of the selected recovery vehicle.
EV and hybrid accident recovery
Electric and hybrid vehicles require additional caution. Fire, heat, smoke, hissing, severe underbody damage or suspected high-voltage battery damage must be dealt with by the emergency services first.
Motorway and roadside crash recovery
Attendance on the M1, M25, M40, A1(M) and major A-roads when police or road-authority access is permitted, as well as town roads, car parks and private premises.
Where can an accident-damaged vehicle be taken?
You choose the destination, provided the location will accept the vehicle and transport is lawful and practical. Common options include:
- A bodyshop or accident-repair centre nominated by you or your insurer
- A mechanical garage for inspection of steering, suspension or cooling damage
- Your home or secure private address, where there is suitable access and permission
- A dealership or specialist repairer for EV, hybrid, prestige or manufacturer-specific work
- An authorised storage, salvage or auction site when the required release and delivery information is available
Before choosing a destination, check opening times, acceptance arrangements and storage rules. We can transport the vehicle as instructed, but we cannot guarantee that a garage or bodyshop will accept an unbooked vehicle.
Information that helps us plan the right recovery
- Exact location, road direction and whether emergency services are at the scene
- Vehicle make, model, registration, fuel type and approximate loaded weight for a van
- Whether you have the keys and whether the vehicle powers on, selects neutral and releases the parking brake
- Which wheels roll and steer, and whether tyres, suspension or axles appear damaged
- Any visible fluid leak, loose bodywork, broken glass, deployed airbags, smoke, heat or unusual smell
- Photos showing the vehicle, damage, access and space around it, taken only when safe
- The requested destination and confirmation that it can receive the vehicle
Never approach a dangerous vehicle just to take photographs. Describe what you can see from a safe location and let the emergency services manage hazards.
Our accident vehicle recovery process
1. Urgency and safety check
We establish whether anyone is at risk, whether the scene is controlled and whether a recovery operator has permission to enter.
2. Damage and access assessment
Vehicle type, wheel condition, keys, EV status, fluids, debris, loading angle and available space are considered.
3. Quote and dispatch
The quote reflects the recovery method, distance, vehicle condition, time and destination. An ETA is confirmed after dispatch.
4. Controlled loading
Suitable winching and loading equipment is used. Loose parts and severe structural or battery damage may require specialist controls beyond a normal recovery.
5. Delivery and handover
The damaged vehicle is delivered to the agreed authorised location, with any booking or contact details you have provided.

Recovery call-outs start from £50. Collision work is quoted from the actual circumstances because damaged wheels, difficult access, debris, specialist loading, distance and waiting time can materially change the job. Send the registration, location, destination and safe photographs by WhatsApp for the most accurate initial assessment.
If an insurer, garage, bodyshop or vehicle owner is authorising the collection, make sure the person booking has permission to move the vehicle and understands who is responsible for the recovery charge.

Can you collect my car after a crash?
Yes, where the scene is safe, access is authorised and the vehicle is within our equipment capability. We will ask about wheel, steering, body, fluid and battery damage before dispatch.
Should I call you or the emergency services first?
Call 999 first if anyone is injured, the vehicle is in a live lane, traffic is in danger, or there is fire, smoke, fuel leakage or another immediate hazard. Recovery is arranged after the emergency response is underway and access is permitted.
Can you recover a car with locked or damaged wheels?
Often, but the correct method depends on which wheels are affected, access, ground surface and vehicle damage. Skates, winching or other equipment may be needed, so photos and accurate details are important.
Can you recover an accident-damaged electric car?
Potentially, but damaged EVs require careful assessment. Fire, heat, smoke, hissing or suspected high-voltage battery damage must be managed by emergency responders. Manufacturer guidance and safe isolation requirements affect transport.
Will you deal with my insurance claim?
No. We provide recovery and transport, not claim handling, liability decisions or insurance advice. We can deliver the vehicle to the destination authorised by you, your insurer or another responsible party.
Can you take the car to my home?
Yes where it is lawful, the address has suitable access and you have permission to store the vehicle there. Consider fluid leaks, damaged glass and whether a non-running vehicle can later be moved.
