Reliable auction car collection starts before the truck arrives

A successful auction vehicle collection depends on more than a postcode. Auction sites may require pre-booked slots, cleared funds, buyer or member details, lot numbers, collection codes, identification or named-driver authority. Some impose storage charges when a vehicle is not collected by a deadline.

Give us the auction’s current collection instructions rather than relying on an old process. We can provide transportation, but the buyer or authorised customer is responsible for making sure the vehicle is released to us. If the site refuses release because payment, identity or authority is missing, waiting or a second journey may be chargeable.

Rules differ between auction houses, Copart-style salvage facilities, dealer auctions, storage compounds and independent sellers. We check the transport job with the details you supply; we do not act as the auction account holder or guarantee release.

Auction and salvage vehicles we transport

Running auction purchases

Roadworthy or driveable cars can still require transporter collection because they are untaxed, uninsured, unregistered, distant or purchased for trade stock.

Non-running and immobilised vehicles

Vehicles with mechanical faults, flat batteries, no drive, locked wheels, seized brakes or missing keys need accurate condition information and suitable loading equipment.

Accident-damaged and salvage cars

Collision, suspension, steering, wheel, body and underbody damage must be declared. Loose parts, fluids, fire damage or structural instability may require special site and transport controls.

Electric and hybrid salvage

A damaged high-voltage vehicle needs additional assessment. Smoke, heat, hissing, fire history or suspected battery damage may make ordinary transport unsuitable.

Vans and light commercial stock

Exact model, wheelbase, roof height, gross weight and load are required. Auction descriptions do not always contain enough transport information.

Project, classic and modified vehicles

Low clearance, missing components, fragile bodywork, non-standard wheels and long storage can affect safe loading. Send photographs before the quote is confirmed.

Your auction collection checklist

  • Auction or seller name, full collection address and current collection instructions
  • Buyer, member, lot, stock, reference or release number required by the site
  • Proof that payment has cleared and confirmation the vehicle is authorised for release
  • Booked collection date or slot, opening hours, cut-off time and storage-charge deadline
  • Vehicle make, model, registration or VIN where required, dimensions and approximate weight
  • Keys present or missing, start/run status, neutral and parking-brake status, and which wheels move
  • Known category, mechanical faults, tyre, suspension, steering, collision, fire or flood damage
  • Destination address, receiving contact, opening time and confirmation that a non-runner is accepted

Forward the auction condition report and current photos where available. Catalogue wording such as ‘run and drive’ is not a guarantee of roadworthiness or that the vehicle will behave the same at collection.

Written-off and category vehicles

UK insurance write-off categories describe whether a vehicle may return to the road. Category A vehicles must be crushed and Category B vehicles cannot return to the road, although some parts may be recoverable. Category S and Category N vehicles may be repaired, but must still be roadworthy before road use. See the GOV.UK insurance write-off guide.

Transport permission, salvage handling and destination suitability still need to be checked for the individual vehicle. BZ Recovery does not provide legal, engineering, roadworthiness or salvage-disposal advice. Do not book a normal transport movement for a vehicle that the auction or law requires to be handled through an authorised specialist route.

Tell us the recorded category, fire or flood history, missing parts and structural condition. A vehicle that cannot safely support normal loading or restraint may be outside standard recovery capability.

How auction vehicle transport works

1. Release check

You supply the site instructions, account or buyer information, lot/reference, payment status, named-driver authority and collection window.

2. Vehicle condition check

We review keys, start/run status, wheel movement, damage, weight and photographs to determine whether normal collection is suitable.

3. Route and quote

Collection and delivery postcodes, loading work, storage deadline, slot, mileage, waiting risk and required equipment shape the price.

4. Collection

The driver follows the site’s authorised process. Site staff may control queues, loading areas and use of their equipment.

5. Secure delivery

The vehicle is transported to the agreed address and handed over to the named recipient where safe access and acceptance are available.

Auction collections for private buyers and motor traders

Private buyers use our auction car delivery service to bring a purchase home or to a repair garage. Dealers, bodyshops and traders can arrange repeat auction collections, stock transfers and delivery to preparation centres. For recurring work, visit Trade Vehicle Transportation and Trade Vehicle Services.

We can quote single vehicles, multiple movements or longer routes subject to scheduling and equipment. A multi-vehicle job is planned from the actual vehicle mix; it is not automatically suitable for one truck or one collection slot.

Auction car transport prices

Planned vehicle transportation starts from £1.75 per mile. The final quote depends on total route, vehicle size and condition, keys and wheel movement, collection slot, access, required loading equipment, waiting and delivery requirements.

Auction storage charges and site fees are separate from BZ Recovery’s transport quote. Confirm the deadline early, because a last-minute booking may limit availability. VAT invoices are available where applicable.

Auction and salvage transport FAQs

What details do you need to collect an auction vehicle?

We normally need the site and address, buyer/member details, lot or stock number, release code or authority, cleared-payment confirmation, collection slot, vehicle condition, destination and receiving contact.

Can you collect a Copart or salvage-auction car?

We can assess collections from major and independent auction or salvage sites, subject to their current rules, vehicle condition and our equipment availability. The customer must supply valid release information and meet the site’s requirements.

Can you collect a car with no keys or locked wheels?

Potentially, but this must be declared before quoting. Missing keys, locked steering, stuck transmissions and seized brakes may require skates, dollies, winching or other arrangements, and some auction sites restrict recovery methods.

Do you transport Category S or Category N vehicles?

These vehicles may be considered for transport when release, condition, destination and safe loading are clear. Their category does not guarantee roadworthiness. Category A and B vehicles have different legal restrictions and may require authorised specialist handling.

What if the auction refuses to release the vehicle?

The buyer is responsible for payment, authority, identity and booking requirements. Waiting or a second collection attempt may be chargeable if release information is incomplete or the slot is missed.

Can you deliver the vehicle straight to a garage?

Yes, when the garage has agreed to receive it and access is suitable. Give us the garage contact, booking reference and opening time, particularly for a damaged or non-running vehicle.

Need an auction or salvage vehicle collected?

Send the auction instructions, lot or stock reference, release status, collection deadline, vehicle condition, photographs and delivery postcode. We will assess the loading requirements and quote the journey.
