UK ↔ MAINLAND EUROPE VEHICLE TRANSPORT

European Vehicle Transportation

BZ Recovery quotes planned UK-to-Europe and Europe-to-UK car transport for private owners, buyers, sellers and motor businesses. Routes, countries, collection-to-delivery arrangements, documents and customs requirements are assessed for each journey.

European vehicle transport is subject to route, legal documentation, customs requirements, vehicle condition, carrier availability and quotation. We do not claim to be your customs agent or guarantee every country or route.

European car transport planned as a complete journey

Moving a vehicle between the UK and mainland Europe involves more than mileage. Ferry or tunnel routing, driver hours, tolls, low-emission or local restrictions, collection appointments, border requirements, customs status and the vehicle’s own documents can all affect the plan.

We begin with the exact collection and delivery points, dates, vehicle identity and reason for movement. A temporary holiday breakdown return, private purchase, dealer transfer, restoration movement or permanent import may each require different paperwork.

BZ Recovery provides vehicle transportation. The customer remains responsible for obtaining correct ownership, import, export, tax, registration and customs advice. Where a customs representative or other specialist is required, that service must be arranged and identified in the quotation.

European vehicle movements we can quote

UK to mainland Europe car transport

Planned collection in the UK and delivery to selected mainland European destinations, subject to viable route, documents and availability.

Europe to UK vehicle transport

Collection of eligible cars or vans from selected European locations for delivery to a UK home, garage, dealer or other authorised address.

Breakdown repatriation

Return transport for a vehicle that cannot be repaired locally, with condition, storage, release, keys and cross-border documents confirmed.

Vehicle purchase and sale delivery

Transport after a private, dealer or auction purchase when ownership, payment, release and any import or export formalities are ready.

Classic, prestige and project vehicles

Long-distance transport can be considered for special vehicles using the same clearance, condition and open-carriage boundaries as our specialist service.

Trade and dealer movements

Motor businesses can request one-off or planned cross-border movements, with VAT, customs status and commercial documents handled by the responsible parties.

Documents and information to check

  • Vehicle make, model, registration, VIN, year, fuel type, dimensions and weight
  • Proof of ownership or authority to move the vehicle, purchase invoice or sale document where relevant
  • Registration certificate, title or equivalent document required by the countries and route involved
  • Collection and delivery contacts, addresses, opening times, release references and identification requirements
  • Reason for movement and whether it is a temporary movement, purchase, sale, repair return, import or export
  • Customs status and who is responsible for declarations, duties, taxes and any customs-agent appointment
  • Vehicle condition, keys, start/run status, wheel movement, damage, contents and transport suitability
  • Preferred dates, flexibility, ferry or tunnel constraints and any deadline

Requirements change according to the circumstances and countries. GOV.UK explains that an import declaration may be needed when bringing a vehicle into the UK. Obtain current official or professional advice for your specific movement.

Customs, tax and registration boundaries

A transport quote does not prove that a vehicle may legally be imported, exported, registered, taxed or used on the road. Customs declarations, import VAT or duty, proof of origin, NOVA notification, registration steps or export formalities may apply depending on the journey.

We do not present BZ Recovery as a customs agent, tax adviser or registration service. You may need a customs intermediary and advice from HMRC, DVLA, the destination country or another competent authority. Any customs fees, taxes, inspections, storage or third-party charges are separate unless expressly included.

Do not place undeclared goods or personal belongings in a transported vehicle. Contents can change customs, security, weight and liability considerations and are not automatically accepted.

Vehicle condition for a long international journey

Tell us whether the vehicle starts, drives, selects neutral, releases its parking brake and rolls on all wheels. A non-runner, accident-damaged car, EV with a battery fault, no-key vehicle or project car may need extra loading equipment and may not be accepted by every route or carrier.

For EVs, provide exact model and battery condition. Fire, heat, smoke, hissing, severe underbody impact or suspected high-voltage damage must be handled by emergency specialists before transport is considered. For classic, prestige or lowered cars, provide dimensions, clearance and photographs.

The collection and delivery points must have lawful access and space for the agreed recovery or transport equipment. Restricted city centres, steep private roads, low structures and timed facilities need advance planning.

How European vehicle transportation works

1. Journey brief

We collect route, dates, vehicle, reason for movement, condition, contacts and required service information.

2. Documentation check

You confirm ownership, release, registration and customs responsibilities. We identify which documents must be available for the transport handover.

3. Route and suitability assessment

Ferry or tunnel options, distance, access, vehicle condition and operational availability are reviewed.

4. Written quotation

The quote records the planned scope and known route costs. Customs, tax or third-party items are included only when clearly stated.

5. Collection and delivery

Once documents and arrangements are ready, the vehicle is loaded, secured and transported to the authorised destination.

European vehicle transport prices

European car transport is individually quoted. The price may include collection and delivery mileage, crossing, tolls, route, driver time, vehicle condition, loading equipment, waiting, dates and return planning. The £1.75-per-mile starting point for planned transport is not a promise of a single all-inclusive European rate.

For the most useful quote, send both full postcodes or addresses, flexible dates, registration/VIN, dimensions, running status, reason for movement and current documentation position. We will identify assumptions and exclusions rather than giving a misleading mileage-only figure.

European vehicle transportation FAQs

Can you transport a car from the UK to Europe?

Selected mainland European routes can be quoted, subject to destination, dates, vehicle condition, documents, customs requirements and operational availability.

Can you bring a broken-down car back to the UK?

Breakdown repatriation can be assessed. We need the exact location, storage and release arrangements, condition, keys, documents and UK destination. Urgency and access affect availability and cost.

Do you handle customs declarations for me?

Do not assume this is included. BZ Recovery is the transport provider, not automatically your customs agent. The quote will state any agreed assistance; otherwise the customer must arrange declarations and professional advice.

What documents are needed?

Requirements vary, but commonly relevant information includes registration or title, VIN, proof of ownership or authority, invoice, collection release and customs documents. Check the rules for the countries and purpose of movement.

Can personal belongings stay in the car?

Not automatically. Undeclared contents can create customs, security, weight and liability issues. Remove belongings or list them and obtain express acceptance before collection.

Do you transport classic or electric cars internationally?

These can be assessed. Classics and low vehicles need clearance and condition details; EVs require model-specific transport instructions and full disclosure of battery or collision concerns.
